Slussen, Stockholm’s busy hub where hundreds of thousands pass by every day, is getting renewed!

We did it again! Another walking trip to the Down Town of Stockholm.
But just as we were about to pass Slussen and head over to the Old Town, we noticed that there was an ongoing event this time. Curious as always, we started to read about the event and saw that a showing in Slussenrummet (The Slussen Room) was about to start.
Slussenrummet
Due my vivid imagination, I visioned a huge underground area where we could see the ongoing construction and explore things on our own. That couldn’t however been more far away from the truth.
Instead, we entered a small room with a modest flat-screen TV, joining about 30 other people, mostly retirees, to watch a PowerPoint presentation together.
It turned out quite interesting, where we got to learn about the history of Slussen and both why and how the New Slussen is taking form.

At Slussenrummet they also have images of what the New Slussen (Nya Slussen). They will add new green areas and a bike and walking path for even more easy crossing among other things.

Slussen Metro Station
From this station you can take either the Red or Green lines to popular stops such as The Old Town, Stockholm Central Station or Östermalmstorg.
Unfortunately, the bus station that was previously located within this station has been relocated further away (5-10 minutes) due to renovations.

Katarina Elevator
Katarina Elevator is a historic passenger elevator located in Stockholm, linking Slussen to the elevated heights of Södermalm.
Originally constructed in 1881, the current structure was rebuilt during the renovation of the Slussen transport interchange in 1936. After a significant renovation that began in 2010, the elevator reopened its doors in October 2023.
From here, you can get a great panoramic view of Stockholm, so don’t miss this spot.
It can also be used to take a shortcut to the charming backstreets of Södermalm.

Walking down to Vattentorget (The Water Square) to cross over to the Old Town.
By the way, new restaurants are popping up around here one after another!

The view from Slussen over the Old Town, with trains coming and going, is truly breathtaking!
Don’t forget to snap plenty of photos of this iconic Stockholm scene – perfect as memories from your trip!
This is how we make our Nordic Life Colorful! Enjoy your day!
