The pub craze has returned among us! When I first moved to Sweden, I loved British pubs and visited many of them. Over time, however, there were fewer places with nice food and my beer preference shifted from lagers to craft beers, so I stopped going as often.
On a cold winter day, Anders suddenly said, ‘Let’s go take photos of Stockholm’s night view,’ so we made our way to Mariaberget.

After capturing the stunning view, on our way back we spotted Bishops Arms – a British-style pub chain across Sweden. The warm (literally speaking!) and inviting decorations immediately caught our attention, but since we had other plans that day, we just headed home.

Then winter passed and after Anders asked me several times to go here, we finally made it to The Bishops Arms!

Gastropub: The Bishops Arms Bellmansgatan
📍Bellmansgatan 12, 118 20 Stockholm
The Bishops Arms is a British-style pub chain run by Sweden’s Elite Hotels. Most locations are usually next to a hotel, but this one doesn’t seem to have a hotel attached.

I completely forgot to snap a photo of the bar, but the place has a traditional British vibe, with old paintings and unique curios, making it warm and cozy in that old-fashioned way.

Wait, what is this? 👇👀

As usual, I told the bartender my favorite type of beer and let her choose for me. I can handle my drinks but I’m not an alcoholic and usually if the beer she picks is good, I’ll keep drinking. Sometimes I like something more bitter or I choose based on the tap design while sitting at the bar. Basically, I enjoy trying a variety of beers.
But what surprised me here was that she immediately understood my taste and every beer she served was delicious. Not a single beer was repeated until the end. I’ve never experienced such professional service before!
I also like going to bars alone sometimes, but in Sweden, it’s a bit unusual for a woman to drink alone, so I’ve recently limited myself to just one or two drinks. This place, however, has quickly become my favorite bar.

Next up, the food! And once again – what a surprise 👀 It’s been such a long time since I’ve had European dishes this delicious. My image of pubs and of The Bishops Arms in particular, completely changed.

Taste:🙆🏻♂️🙆🏻♀️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
It was the first time for both Anders and me to try this yellow berry. With its perfect balance of tartness and sweetness, it was so delicious that it disappeared in an instant.

This is a bit of a complaint, but in Sweden it’s very rare to find a restaurant or café where the taste, atmosphere, service and price are all perfect. For example, the staff might be great but the food disappointing, or the chef’s excellent but the service are lacking. Having grown up in Japan, where both service and food are highly valued, I sometimes find this disappointing. But I also understand that it’s part of Swedens focus on keeping work stress-free, which is one of the country’s positive aspects.
That’s why I’ll never forget the amazing feeling of being surprised and delighted by the 100% passionate staff at The Bishops Arms Bellmansgatan! I want to try the rest of the menu, so I’ll definitely go again. Thank you!
For anyone who hasn’t been yet, you absolutely have to check it out! The food, prices, service, and variety of drinks are all incredibly satisfying – I can’t recommend it enough!
