🍩Hasses Munkar – Freshly made doughnuts that reminds me of my childhood

Hasses Munkar is a mobile doughnut bakery in an easy to spot tent that visits our neighborhood regularly.

Their doughnuts taste so much like the homemade ones my mother used to make for me, and every time I eat one, that gentle homemade flavor feels incredibly comforting. Moments like this make me miss my mom so much!

The text below is translated and adapted from an article in “Nytt i Flempan“;

The Story behind Hasses Munkar
The idea started over thirty years ago back in 1995. Hans “Hasse” was working as a plumber but was affected by the crisis in the construction industry in the 90s. During that time, he got in contact with an American and they started talking about donuts. That’s how it came about. Hasse bought his very first donut machine from him. And the rest is history!

Since 2017, Hasses Munkar has been bringing fresh donuts to people in Huddinge Centrum and Liljeholmen. Altough these are their regular spots, they also visit other places in Sweden, so make sure to follow them on Instragram!

The first time I tried these doughnuts was at a friend’s house. I already knew that this mobile doughnut stand occasionally came to the neighborhood, but I had never actually bought anything from them before. One bite was enough to impress me, and after that I found myself looking forward to the next time they would return.

What started as a fun little winter outing in the freezing Nordic cold to buy freshly fried doughnuts with steam still rising from them has now turned into a real obsession. I follow them on Instagram, and whenever I see a post saying they are coming to Liljeholmstorget, I go almost immediately!

At Liljeholmstorget, you can spot the stand right after exiting from the right-side exit near the tram-side entrance at Liljeholmen station.

Even though it only takes me three minutes to get home, the smell is so tempting that I already want to eat them all on the street before I even make it back.

The amount of sugar is just right, but personally I prefer them plain, so lately I have been ordering mine without sugar.

Once, during the Christmas season, they also had a saffron-flavored version, and it was absolutely amazing. I am secretly hoping they might bring it back again sometime in spring.

You can also buy a lot and freeze them!
Since we never know exactly when we will be able to buy them again, we sometimes buy as many as 20 at once and freeze them at home. If you plan to do that, I recommend ordering them without sugar. That way, the sugar coating is less likely to become sticky or melt from moisture during thawing, and the texture tends to keep better.

When we want to eat them, we taket them straight from the freezer into the Air Fryer and heat them at

190°C for two to three minutes.

When I feel like having something sweeter, I sometimes change the flavor by adding cinnamon sugar or Japanese style with kinako (Roasted soybean flour).
