🍽️🔥Let’s Malatang – My most visited restaurant in Stockholm this year

Ever since they first opened, this has been my go-to spot whenever I start craving for hot pot:

The place is really spacious, and the interior is super cute.
What I realized only later was that there are actually lots of tables even further inside, past the restroom area, which makes it great for spontaneous visits because you don’t have to wait long for a seat.

The rules have changed since this year, and now you choose your table first.
So unlike before, you no longer have to pick your ingredients while still wearing your jacket.

After leaving your jacket at your table, you can start to pick what to eat.
Just remember to bring your valuables with you!

You’re welcomed by a Chinese joke sign as soon as you walk in.

The Chinese characters on the sign says:
Friendly reminder:
Please do not insult or hit the boss, even if good-looking 😅

Grab a bowl, pick your ingredients, have them weighed, choose your soup base, and pay 👇

While waiting, you can make your own dipping sauce 👇

The cups they serve the beer in are also really cute.
They have Chinese phrases about drinking printed on them. One of them said “按时喝酒,” which roughly means “drink alcohol on schedule,” and we were like, “what does that even mean?” while making a toast.

When the buzzer they give you at the counter goes off, you go pick up your food.

【Soup base options for Malatang】

🌶️Original Broth:A broth made by simmering beef bones and chicken
🌶️YGF Classic:A creamy, milky broth made by simmering beef bones and chicken
🌶️🌶️🌶️Szechuan Spicy:A classic Szechuan-style spicy broth
Tomato:A sweet and tangy tomato-flavored broth
🌶️🌶️Tom Yum:A Thai tom yum-style broth
🌶️🌶️Spicy Wok:A stir-fried option with that nostalgic local Chinese flavor

🙆🏻‍♀️If you can handle really spicy food like I can, my top recommendation is Szechuan Spicy!

🙆🏻‍♂️If your spice tolerance is more on a typical Japanese or Swedish level like Anders, his recommendation is YGF Classic!

So far, I’ve tried every flavor except the tomato one, and at the moment these two are my favorites.
I personally didn’t find the Tom Yum one very tasty.
The Spicy Wok option tasted exactly like the kind of stir-fried dishes you get in local restaurants in China, which felt really nostalgic to me. But it also contains quite a lot of Szechuan peppercorn, which gives your tongue that slightly numbing sensation, so I think some people might not like it.

I still haven’t tried the Tomato soup yet, so I’ll update this post once I do!

Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The restaurant is spacious, and although it’s a self-service style place, the staff are always walking around, so it feels easy and comfortable to ask for help whenever you need it.

Atmosphere ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bright, cheerful, and full of cute interior details that make the whole experience fun.

Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Of course it depends on personal preference, but you really can’t go wrong with the classic ️Szechuan spicy broth.
